SiC and GaN Modules

Edit Content

Mainstream develops custom power converter modules using state-of-the-art silicon carbide or gallium nitride devices depending on the application’s requirements. First, our engineers perform a die characterization by measuring switching losses over broad temperature ranges (-225 °C to 150 °C). We then use these results to design custom gate drive electronics for superior performance in power converting and variable speed motor drives.

High-Speed Motor Drives and Control Algorithms

Edit Content
Mainstream develops custom high-speed, variable-frequency motor drives for demanding applications where commercial drives are not suitable.  The power devices are mounted to custom-designed coldplates to minimize size and weight and package the drive in a hermetically sealed enclosure to reduce sand and dust intrusion.  Examples include 2 kW bi-directional PM motor drives for ISA/hybrid vehicle and portable generator applications, 60 kW drive for ram air turbine motor/generator, 15 kW high efficiency (> 98%) SiC drives for ultra-high-speed (>100,000 rpm) pm motor/generators, and 10 kW drive for a high-speed water pump for ground-based radar systems.

Lightweight, Compact Power Supplies

Edit Content

Mainstream develops lightweight and compact portable power supplies for military and DoD applications. We have developed AC-DC, DC-DC, and DC-AC converters for high current (500 A), low voltage (28 VDC) systems, and prime power 208/230 and 460 VAC systems. Thermal management ranges from natural convection systems where external fan circulation is impractical to liquid-cooled systems (up to 100°C) to direct refrigerant cooling systems. Example applications include 60 Hz to 400 Hz solid-state frequency conversion, pulsed power supplies with hybrid energy storage, high-efficiency integrated fuel cell electronics, and portable battery chargers.
