Mainstream Engineering Awarded Contract from the Air Force for Energy Efficient Shelters
ROCKLEDGE, FL – August 19th, 2011 – Mainstream Engineering Corporation, a 25-year Brevard County research and manufacturing company, has been awarded a contract from the U.S. Air Force to develop an efficient power system for its tactical shelters.
Logistics support activities for deployed operations that use tactical shelters are encumbered with heavy re-fueling requirements. In fact, over 80% of all deployed logistics operations are for refueling purposes. This continued level of logistics support for fuel places military personnel and military missions at risk.
To reduce this risk, Mainstream will reduce the quantity of fuel needed for these tactical shelters by developing a new micro-grid that will significantly improve the efficiency of the power delivery. This innovative micro-grid will use high-efficiency, power electronics developed by the research engineers at Mainstream.
While many employers in Brevard County are discussing reductions in force, Mainstream has seen its staff increase by 14% in the last year alone. This new contract will allow Mainstream to create additional engineering and production positions.
“Given the state of the economy and the anticipated job losses at Kennedy Space Center, we are excited about the possibility of being able to employ displaced aerospace workers from the local community,” said Dr. Robert Scaringe, President of Mainstream. “This new Air Force contract award is one small step in a series of ongoing job-creating programs that we are developing at both Mainstream and at our automotive spin-off company.
“These programs create local jobs, improve the nation’s energy efficiency and reduce our dependence on foreign oil, all while reducing emissions and preserving the environment,” continued Scaringe.
