Mainstream Engineering Awarded Contract from the US Army for a Variable Speed Ratio Gear Drive System
ROCKLEDGE, FL — January 26, 2018 — Mainstream Engineering Corporation, a 32-year-old Brevard County manufacturer with a history of leading-edge research and development that has resulted in advanced, lean-manufacturing, cost-competitive products, which are all made in the USA, has been awarded a contract from the U.S Army for a Variable Speed Ratio Gear Drive System
Existing ground combat vehicles utilize low-efficiency torque converters to provide and extend the torque ratio of transmissions. These devices are necessary to increase the engine torque to a level necessary to propel a vehicle. Current torque converters are inefficient and therefore the US Army has tasked Mainstream to developing a highly efficient variable-speed converter designed specifically to meet the requirements of an Army ground vehicle.
