Mainstream Engineering Awarded Contract from Chemical and Biological Defense Agency to Continue Development of Enhanced SCBA Systems
ROCKLEDGE, FL — January 12, 2018 — Mainstream Engineering Corporation, a 32-year Brevard County research and manufacturing company, has been awarded a contract from the Chemical and Biological Defense (CBD) agency to continue developing enhanced self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) equipment. Chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) environments present airborne contaminants, putting military personnel, first responders, rescuers, and victims at risk. Full-face respirators and SCBA equipment provide protection against hazardous environments, and this new technology will improve SCBA systems by increasing comfort, mobility, mission duration, and safety, as well as reducing weight.
Mainstream’s patent-pending CO2 removal technology eliminates the scrubber and cooling packs. Additionally, Mainstream has developed breath monitoring micro-sensors that regulate the system. These enhanced SCBA components are being designed as a drop-in replacements for immediate use.
