Mainstream Engineering Awarded Contract from the Army to Recycle Greywater Produced at Army Field Kitchens
ROCKLEDGE, FL – January 20th, 2012 – Mainstream Engineering Corporation, a 25-year Brevard County research and manufacturing company, has been awarded a contract from the U.S. Army to develop a greywater recycling system for Army field kitchens.
Army Field Sanitation Centers typically convert 240 gallons of potable water per day into greywater. Regulations require that all greywater be properly disposed of or transported off-site. The Army has contracted with Mainstream Engineering Corporation to develop a compact, continuous greywater recycling system that recycles water and thereby lowers the consumption of valuable potable drinking water.
Under a competitive selection process, Mainstream was selected to develop, design, and fabricate this innovative recycling system and this work represents a continued expansion of Mainstream’s prior water recycling and water purification efforts that have been ongoing for more than a decade. “Energy and water resources are going to be scarce commodities in the future, and Mainstream has been working diligently for years on methods to preserve both natural resources in a cost-effective means with practical, reliable inventions”, stated Dr. Scaringe Mainstream’s President and Founder.
While many employers in Brevard County are discussing reductions in force, Mainstream has seen its staff increase by more than 20% in the last year, while also successfully spinning off a start-up automotive company and dramatically expanding its manufacturing capabilities in Brevard. “Every Mainstream product is proudly made in the USA to the highest quality standards and we intend to keep it that way,” stated Scaringe. This new Army contract will allow Mainstream to create additional engineering and production positions.
“Given the state of the economy and the recent job losses at Kennedy Space Center, we are excited about the possibility of being able to employ displaced workers from the local community,”/ said Scaringe. “As I have stated with each new contract award, this new Army contract award is one small step in a series of ongoing job-creating programs that we are developing at both Mainstream and our automotive spin-off company.”
